2020 Virtual Camp Report
The 2020 Virtual Hip Hop Architecture Camp experience took place August 1 - August 11, 2020 via Zoom. The camp had over 600 middle and high school students registered from across the United States with a few international participants from London, Canada, and China. During the 2020 camp we were able to secure laptops for students in need of access to technology, each of our workshops used free software tools for students, and we were able to introduce our participants to a variety of special guests throughout the event. As with all our camps, the virtual experience was free because of the generosity of our donors. We would like to extend a thank you to each of our sponsoring firms, to every individual who made a contribution, and a special thanks to our platinum sponsor, Herman Miller. Below are some of the information we gathered from our registered participants.

“Art 606” by Amari S.
“we individuals sufferin’ always cynical
cryin’ cuz of the visuals visible out our windows
creative minds that are treated like they omissible
building if it’s permissible and kids can’t act like kids no mo
i wanna make a place where folks like me don’t have to face
a limited reality and limits on the things they make
you wanna go and paint a mural wanna do some break dancing
the sky it ain’t a limit where we all create
a net a safety for the youth that’s always on the run
my poc, lgbt, we wanna see the sun
we got the gardens, yes, but listen cuz the work ain’t done
come and produce, come on and sing, come on and have some fun
escape from guns and violence, from the oppressive silence
from noise of plastic barriers that rip and still confine us
we are the artists and we make and make until they blind us
we are the architects we build over our own horizons”
“Hip Hop Youth Center” by Elijah E and Run DMC

“The Refuge Manor” - By Caleb G. & Chance The Rapper
“Chance can you invest
Just so the refuge center can have some success
Unfortunate souls that barely get rest
Is this a necessity?C’mon yes!
We could be the savior some people need
Chance when you hear this verse, hope you take heed
I’m just wonderin’ how many people we could feed
Doin’ this out my heart, cause it’s a good deed
It don’t matter your gender, race, or even creed
So many people hurt, it’s that internal bleed
When I see ‘em on the street, it hurts internally
People steady lookin’ over them, purposefully
Chance, I’m just askin’ you to work wit me
So many people on the street that it worries me
Just askin, for a little bit of help ya see
You gon’ bless so many people by just helpin’ me”
