About The Hip Hop Architecture Camp
Hip Hop x Design is a nonprofit organization and an officially registered 501(c)(3) dedicated to empowering underrepresented youth through design, architecture, and urban planning. Founded by Michael Ford, a licensed architect known as The Hip Hop Architect, Hip Hop x Design harnesses the power of hip hop culture to inspire the next generation of designers, thinkers, and change-makers.
Our flagship program, The Hip Hop Architecture Camp®, was established in 2016 as a free, immersive experience that introduces young people to architecture, urban planning, and creative placemaking. Rooted in the "4C's"—Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Critical Thinking—this week-long camp connects students with top industry professionals, including architects, urban planners, designers, community activists, and hip hop artists.
At Hip Hop x Design, we believe that design is a tool for empowerment and transformation. Through The Hip Hop Architecture Camp®, we are building a pipeline for diverse voices in the fields of architecture and design while ensuring that young people see themselves as creators of the built environment.
