The 2021 Hip Hop Architecture Camp (Virtual Experience)

 
 

Program Description:
The Milwaukee Hip Hop Architecture Camp is FREE for Milwaukee area middle school and high school students. The camp will use Hip Hop culture as a catalyst to introduce Milwaukee based middle school and high school students to architectural history, design, coding, and music production. During these four sessions, students will be joined by special guests, including hip hop artists and architects for a chance to win special prizes from Nike, Beats by Dre and Giftcards! Thanks to our sponsor American Family Insurance and our programming partner, Steam and Dream, this experience is free!

When: Each Saturday during February 2021 (Starting February 6, 2021)
Program Celebration: Saturday, March 6, 2021 (Participants and parents are welcomed to attend)
Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm
Where: Zoom (A Zoom link will be provided to all participants)
Who: Space is limited to Middle School and High School students in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Cost: Free

What do I need to participate?

  • Each participant will need access to a computer with internet access.

  • No special software is required to be installed prior to our during The Hip Hop Architecture Experience.

  • A limited number of laptops are available for participants who identify the need for a laptop on the registration form. The laptops are made possible through our program partner Steam & Dream!

Program Overview

Module 1: Virtual Tour of Africa and The Roots of Hip Hop Culture

Using virtual reality and rap lyrics as a guide, participants will explore places of significance throughout the continent of Africa as they learn about the roots of S.T.E.A.M. related careers and the roots of Hip Hop Culture!

Module 2: 3D Modeling and Coding for Architects and Planners

Participants will learn the basics of 3D modeling, and Coding as they design a structure in their community. The best design projects will win a special prize!

Module 3: The Rap Cypher and Design Pitch Contest
